CEO & FOUNDER_BGCSL - PRINCE ALANSAN SESAY End-of-Year Summary: Celebrating Achievements and Looking Ahead to 2025

A Celebration of Joy, Talent, and Opportunity
Dear Friends, Supporters, and Partners of The Boys and Girls Club of Sierra Leone, As we closed out 2024, I am filled with great pride and gratitude for all that we have accomplished in just seven short months since our official registration on May 7, 2024. Our journey as a recognized non-profit organization has been nothing short of extraordinary, and it is with immense pleasure that I share with you our end-of-year summary. First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated team of volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible. My deepest thanks go to my able co-founder, Martha Sellu, whose daily counsel has been invaluable. Our core team, including Franklyn Alusine Sesay (Club Director), Mohamed Ishmael Fofanah (Program Director), Wisdom Bryant (Program Coordinator), and Solomon Sellu (Chief Financial Officer), has shown unwavering commitment to our cause. I also want to recognize the tireless efforts of Sulaiman Kamara, Gibrilla Turay, Emmanuel Charles King, Esther Mamie Bangura, Abdulai Salaam, Vivian Kamara, Simeon Blango, Nafisatu Nancy Magbity, Yusuf Fofanah, Johnson Sandro Amara, Chernor Umaro Bah, Isha Marigo, Marielyn Blessing Kalokoh, Joshua Nat George, Santigie Sesay, Sorie Santigie Kamara, Agustin Conteh, Nyamakoro Marrah, Alfred Kelleh Kargbo, and Sherif Sesay. Your dedication has been the backbone of our organization. Our Achievements This Year: We launched computer classes, providing vital digital skills to our community. We successfully enrolled 60 students in our program, nurturing young minds and talents. We hosted our first end-of-year Christmas party, bringing joy and celebration to our members. We formed strategic partnerships with the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation; Cathedral Primary School; Sierra Leone Hockey Association; and Sierra Leone Cricket Association. None of this would have been possible without all the individuals mentioned above and the generous support of our partners. World Youth Clubs generously provided a total grant of $1,600, which included sponsorship for our first delegate to attend a conference in Rwanda. They also covered all the financial costs for our representative to attend the one-week-long conference. BTB Soccer Academy in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, donated complete soccer equipment, including jerseys, boots, and balls. We are deeply grateful to the UNESCO Freetown office for allowing our students to use their computers and spaces. Special thanks to Martha's Win Win Kitchen and Fatu Sellu for catering our end-of-year Christmas party with delicious food and professional service. I also want to acknowledge the support of our Board of Trustees, the students of Bishop Johnson Memorial Secondary School, and their principals, Mr. Joshua Tucker and Mr. Victor L. Mbogba. As we look forward to 2025, we remain committed to our mission of empowering the youth of Sierra Leone. We promise to continue being transparent in our operations and to honor the trust you have placed in us. I want to reaffirm our commitment to transparency. As I mentioned when we started this journey, we will not run our organization in secrecy. We will be as open and transparent as possible in all our dealings, financial and otherwise. The only exception to this policy will be in cases where individuals or organizations have specifically requested anonymity for their contributions. It's important to note that the total cost of running our organization this year far exceeded the amounts mentioned in this summary report. I, as the founder, and our co-founder, Martha Sellu, personally covered the additional expenses. This demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the success of The Boys and Girls Club of Sierra Leone and our belief in its mission. Thank you all for being part of this incredible journey. In just seven months, your support and our personal investments have enabled us to make a significant impact. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of young people in Sierra Leone, and we look forward to expanding our reach and impact in the coming year. With heartfelt gratitude and optimism for 2025 and the years to come, Prince Alansan Sesay Founder and CEO The Boys and Girls Club of Sierra Leone

What the Kids Learned During the First ICT Training Session
The Boys and Girls Club of Sierra Leone (BGCSL) officially launched its first ICT Literacy Program on December 14, 2024, marking the start of an incredible journey in digital education for kids aged 14 to 18. During the inaugural session, participants were introduced to essential computing skills that set the foundation for their technological growth. Here’s what the students learned during the session: 1. Introduction to Computers - A brief history of computers and their evolution. - Overview of the main components: keyboard, mouse, CPU, and monitor. 2. Basic Computer Operations - Practical lessons on turning computers on and off. - Navigating the desktop and using basic features like drag-and-drop. - Creating, deleting, copying, renaming, and storing files and folders. 3. Understanding Operating Systems - Introduction to basic operating systems, including Windows. - Navigating menus, using search functions, and managing files effectively. 4. Hands-On Practice - For many participants, this was their first hands-on experience with a computer. They gained confidence by engaging with real-world tasks such as organizing files and exploring hardware functionality. The session was a transformative experience for the kids, who expressed immense gratitude for this opportunity. Many had only encountered computers theoretically at school, making this practical exposure a significant step toward achieving their dreams of becoming engineers, computer scientists, entrepreneurs, and other professionals. This program is just the beginning. BGCSL’s ICT training will continue to build on these skills, introducing advanced concepts like web development, robotics, and cybersecurity in future sessions. We look forward to witnessing the growth and success of these young minds as they navigate this exciting journey of digital empowerment!
